Reducing Gun Violence
Rep. McCarthy has been fighting for years for common sense safety laws.
I recently joined U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand to announce a new measure aimed at eliminating the steady flow of illegal guns into New York. Nearly 90 percent of the guns used in gun crimes in New York City come from out of state, and 90 percent of these guns are illegal.
"Today, President Bush sided with common-sense and signed HR 2640, the NICS Improvement and Amendments Act, into law. This important legislation will close the wide gaps in our nation’s firearm background check system to ensure violent criminals and the mentally ill no longer slip through the cracks and gain access to dangerous weapons.
