Since our win last November, I have been hard at work fighting for REAL issues important to you. In the 110th Congress, I have worked to pass the NICS Improvement Act, the first meaningful legislation to prevent gun violence to pass the House in 13 years. I have also been named the Chairwoman of the Healthy Families and Communities Subcommittee that will work to keep our kids safe by putting federal resources towards stopping gang recruitment in our schools and neighborhoods. My subcommittee will also work to expand youth empowerment programs, child abuse prevention, low income home energy assistance, and services for the elderly. I’m working to ensure every American has access to quality, affordable health care. I’m fighting to save Social Security, a benefit millions of Americans rely on. I won't leave any child behind, and am working to fully fund our schools and make college affordable for our students. But I can’t win this battle alone.
